Quotes That Resonate With Me

Via the Cleveland Cavaliers official Twitter page.

In this blog I wanted to give you guys some words of wisdom from some of the best stars the game of basketball has had. These quotes all resonate with me on a deep personal level and I hope they do the same to you! Let’s dive right in!

The Best Basketball Quotes to Live by!

“Ask not what your teammates can do for you. Ask what you can do for your teammates.“-Magic Johnson

This quote by Magic really shows the type of player he was.

Playing for the guy next to him was just his style. Showing your willingness to help people not only in basketball but in life is what this quote is all about and he really lived by that

“If you are afraid of failure you don’t deserve to be successful!“-Charles Barkley

I love this one! You can’t be afraid of anything in life no matter what. If you’re too afraid to make that next leap or sacrifice then you don’t deserve to be successful. Things in this world should be worked for, not just handed to anyone.

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.“-Michael Jordan

You can’t have a famous basketball quote without one from MJ! This one is great because you truly are going to fail so many times in life but you have to keep getting up and moving forward. He’s lost a lot in his career and all of it has pushed MJ to really be the best competitor he is.

“The key is not the ‘will to win’… everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important” – Bob Knight

This is obviously all about preparation! You have to have the will to train to be the best. You have to want to put the work in yourself! Nothing is given!

“If all I’m remembered for is being a good basketball player, then I’ve done a bad job with the rest of my life.” –Isiah Thomas

This really resonates with me. It’s not just about basketball. In life it’s about how you treat people is how you’re remembered. I love this because Thomas knew the importance of life outside of basketball and how to carry yourself outside of your career.

“I can’t relate to lazy people. We don’t speak the same language. I don’t understand you. I don’t want to understand you.”

I love Kobe! The Bean! Kobe has been one of my favorite players since I started watching basketball. I saved this one as the sort of “best for last” quote. You have to have that “mamba mentality” if you want to succeed in anything. He doesn’t understand how people would not want to work for something you want. Kobe believed in hard work every day of his career. Kobe was one of the most hard working NBA players on and off the court every single day! I strive to have half the competitiveness and drive Kobe had!

Cavs Update

As always we have a Cavs update! The play-in game is Friday, April 15! We win and we’re in! The Cavs lost a hard fought game on Tuesday to the Brooklyn Nets. We will try to secure the 8th seed tonight on our home court! Darius Garland and Evan Mobley have been playing lights out in the absence of Jarrett Allen. There is optimism that Allen will suit up and play after missing extended time with that fractured middle finger. Allen opted out of having surgery in hopes he could return to help his team secure a playoff spot! It should be a hell of a game against Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks! Make sure you tune in!!
